Robsoul boss Phil Weeks unearths another fresh talent and fellow countryman in CRANE, a young French producer whose MPC obsession, love of 90s sounds and deep-rooted respect for the pioneers of French electronic music make him a natural fit for the label.
A complete ode to his heroes, CRANE’s debut EP wears its influences proudly. The title track ‘Daddy’s Home’ sets the tone, while the daft and playful ‘Lazy Lazy’ and percussive ‘Don’t Know’ weave in subtle French touch flavours, funked-up grooves and fluttering rhythms.
Closing the package is ‘Takin A Chance’, a thrumping, horn-fuelled funker that rounds out a debut packed with character, soul and old-school French electronic spirit.
A fresh name with an unmistakably familiar DNA, CRANE is very much cut from the Robsoul mold.
