Iban Montoro returns to Robsoul Recordings with ‘Midnight Martini Groove.’ First appearing on the label back in 2016 alongside Jazzman Wax with the ‘Rockskate’ EP, the Spanish producer has since become a trusted name in the Robsoul orbit. As Phil Weeks puts it: “I always love his style. His tracks just work, and they’re some of my favourites to play in the club.”
This latest serving opens with ‘H.U.M.A.N.I.Z.E.’, a slow-burning mix of low-slung groove and filtered samples that settles in like the first sip. The title track follows, blending psychedelic funk textures with cosmic swells and sharp rhythmic touches, all shaken down over crisp percussion into something heady and transportive.
Flip it over and ‘OG Cr3m’ keeps things tight and functional, no-nonsense DJ tool with a solid backbone, before ‘DrunK Kid’ signs off with a looser swing, popping slap bass and hip-hop vocal snippets adding a final splash of character.
With summer within reach, ‘Midnight Martini Groove’ lands as a perfectly mixed aperitif.
