Around7 returns to Robsoul Jazz, the alternative and instrumental arm of Phil Weeks’ Robsoul Recordings, with another wonderful selection of jams and the first an exclusive two part release, ‘Final Cut’.
Around7 is the Parisian based Sébastien Guertau whose music career began as a bassist and trumpet player in a jazz/funk band. After learning to play keyboard and discovering the Akai MPC sampler and software like Cubase, Sébastien merged everything together to create his own tracks based around live instrumentation and samples.
His first work with Robsoul was the 7 track mini-album Back To Basics which introduced us to Around7’s unique beats. This was followed soon after by his debut long-player Soul On Wire. Sample heavy, laden with jazz and underpinned by his own rough old school hip-hop beats – “My aim is for the tracks to have an acoustic kinda feel, and natural feeling. I looks at the way I improvise with my samples as a musician might with his instrument.”
Final Cut (Blue Part) is a six track selection that perfectly encapsulates the sound of Around7. The influence of JDilla and Premiere together with a lending hand from the Jazz greats is evident to all, brilliantly crafted by the impressive talent of the French producer.
Final Cut (Blue Part) will be released on 5th December and will be followed by Final Cut (Red Part) in early 2015.
