Jade Cox takes the lead. Back on the label where she started her career, ‘Realise’ digs deep into roots with a fat bassline, a sun-kissed sample and more filters than the Silk Cut factory. The bulbous bassline pressure continues as Jade is followed by Paul Najera & Jr. Quijada who make their long overdue Robsoul debut with overtly funky ‘Go Dancing’.
They’re not the only new arrivals… Elsewhere Frosted bossman Max Hebert makes his debut on Phil Weeks’ label with the springy Chi-town feels of ‘Push The Button’ while hotly-tipped Spanish newcomer Calabasa concludes the EP with the dusty jazz scribbles and funk blasts of ‘Catching Wesley’. With vibes as fine as this, we’re pretty sure he won’t just catch Wesley but he’ll overtake and overlap him. What a way to make a label introduction. What another fine Sampler of Robsoul’s many shades and sounds. Bon appetite!
